Sorry it's been a while good people, we have been rather preoccupied here at SfU towers. We're delighted to say that we had a great show at 100% Design during the London Design Festival. The exhibition was the first chance to see our latest addition to the Wired Lamp family - the Pendant Wired Lamp. We also launched new editions of some old friends... The Parquet Table, orginally launched at last year's LDF was on view in three new colours, and the now iconic Table and Dwarf Wired Lamps could be found sporting a beautiful red flex with the white and white colourway.
SfU have also now completed the initial stages of From Cornwall With Love. We have produced a two volume publication detailing the Diagnose, Co-Discover and Co-Design stages of the project, which has been well received across the board. We're now exploring the proposals (detailed in Volume Two of the publication) with producers, stakeholders and Cornwall Council, and are very excited to be taking the first few forward already. More to come on this soon. Monday, July 12, 2010 9:42 AM Next week SfU will be back round the Co-design table hosting a workshop in Redruth. We will be working with local producers and other interested parties to develop solutions to the challenges thrown up by the project so far. We're really looking forward to seeing what the group comes up with. Meanwhile, a video of the Mirrored Dinner will be online soon, so watch this space. We are also busy working on some additions to our product collection to be unveiled at 100% Design in September. Things are shaping up nicely so please come along and see us at the show. Details to follow nearer the time. Monday, June 7, 2010 3:29 PM Last week was something of an epic, as the FCWL co-design stage announced itself with a bang, in the form of a 'Mirrored Dinner'. With the help of Neil Tinson Studio, SfU organised two simultaneous dinners, one at H. Forman's Smoked Salmon Factory in London and the other 300 miles away at Rustler Yachts boat yard in Falmouth, Cornwall. The dinner brought producers and others with a vested interest in promoting Cornish products and produce together with buyers and retailers from out of county. Discussion took place via a live video feed between the two venues, as guests tucked in to a four course meal created entirely from Cornish produce. It was a rare opportunity to canvas opinion from both ends of the retail and wholesale chain, and threw up many interesting similarities, and differences in thinking at the respective locations. Thursday, May 13, 2010 11:34 Our work in Cornwall continues... The weekend before last, we ran a stall at Helston Farmers' Market, garnering opinion from producers and consumers alike. It was a great morning, and many thanks go to Joanne Schofield wh runs the market, for her help and generosity. You can view a short film of the event here. Enjoy. Tuesday, March 30, 2010 13:36 We are back in London after a lovely stay at the Scarlet hotel in Magwan Porth, North Cornwall. SfU presented their thoughts on emerging design practice as part of a full day workshop on Thursday. On Friday we were part of a judging/interview panel for the RSA Design Directions Award nominees. This, coupled with a lovely clifftop location, and an icy early morning swim in the sea, made for an excellent trip. Below is the view from Mark's room...not bad eh?
Monday, March 22, 2010 14:07 Something from Us have been invited to attend and present at 'Inspired at Bedruthan' a one-off masterclass on collaborative design... ..invited leading thinkers to share their insights with designers in Cornwall at the Bedruthan Steps Hotel on the 25th and 26th March.' We're really looking forward to meeting some interesting people, and spending a couple of days on the North Cornwall coast. We'll post some info on how it went next week.
SfU have just returned from 10 very busy but productive days in Cornwall. The trip encompassed everything from farmers markets in Sennen to meeting the Council in Truro. There were also a few pasties, some great fish and chips and a pint or two of skinners thrown in for good measure. We are also delighted to announce our design team for the From Cornwall with Love project. Neil Tinson of Neil Tinson Studio, and Nick & Dominic from Two Design will be working with us in the next few months, and we look forward to it! Oh and here's a picture of the most southery point in England - scene of one of the several pasty purchases.
Thursday, February 25, 2010 14:34 We are delighted to announce that Something from Us have been appointed Senior Design Producers by Dott Cornwall for the project 'From Cornwall With Love'. The project "...is looking for radical and inventive ways to promote the values of Cornwall through its produce and products."We are in the process of putting together a team to kick off the research stage in the next week. You can find out more about From Cornwall With Love, and Dott Cornwall in general here
Friday February 5, 2010 11:59 Anyone know anything about circuitry? This pile of wires will one day be a light powered purely by human power, but after many cups of tea and hours pondering electromagnets, we have concluded it's creation will not be easy.
Friday February 5, 2010 10:57 When Per from Sweden bought one of our White and Gold Dwarf Wired Lamps recently, he had his personal electrician replace the gold flex with a green one. He kindly sent us an image of his electrician Charlie hard at work, and I'm sure you'll agree, it looks like she's done a great job. Thanks to Per for the snap, and we love the adaptation.
Whilst we're on the subject of happy customers (one of our favourite topics if you'll believe), here is a pic of another Dwarf lamp in a lovely apartment in Rotterdam, as featured in Marie Claire Maison a few months back. Nice.
Friday January 29, 2010 12:57 We have been asked to enter the Bar and Restaurant Design Awards 2010 which we thought was nice. So we did. Wednseday January 27, 2010 19.17 We are delighted to reveal the results of a collaboration between us and the very talented Dan Arnold aka 'This Countryside'. He has applied his illustating genius to one of our Dwarf Wired Lamp shades to create a beautiful one off piece. To enquire about one-off's and commissions
please get in touch.
Tuesday January 26, 2010 19.15 Tuesday January 26, 2010 17:25 Just thinking about how I wish I'd had some building blocks like this when I was a kid... Tuesday January 26, 2010 17:25 We’re delighted to announce that Something from Us have been selected to be part of the design team for Dott Cornwall. The Design Council, Cornwall Council and University College Falmouth have partnered to deliver the Dott (Designs of the time) programme in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly during 2009/10.
